The screenwriter of MBC’s Spotlight is to be replaced according to news from Korea. The rumor goes that director Kim Do Hoon and screenwriter Lee Ki Won had several disagreements with each other on how the plot of Spotlight should continue. The low TV rating of this drama is also another reason why he was removed.
Screenwriter Lee will be replaced by the assistant screenwriter of “Dae Jang Geum” and screenwriter of “Life Special Investigation Team”. They will be writing the plot from episode 9 onwards. The reason for the disagreement seems to be that director Kim wanted to add in more love elements to the drama while Lee wanted to stick with the initial plan, which is to focus on the life of a reporter.
After the success of MBC’s “White Tower” last year, this will be the second “occupational drama” by Lee Ki Won. And due to this sudden change, the whole team had to film day and night without much rest starting from last weekend. There were even circumstances where they were filming day scenes during the night for fear of not being able to finish filming in time.
I think Spotlight is heading for a disaster because of this incident. In the first 8 episodes, the story revolves around Seo Woo Jin and her life as a reporter. But it will soon change to a romance genre starting from episode 9. Since it was meant to be more of an “occupational drama” in the beginning, I feel that this change will no doubt make it seem “disjoint” from it previous episodes.
Doesn’t everything sounds like a real life “On Air”? Whatever it is, let us be optimistic and hope that this change will actually be for the better.
