Real Battle Begins Tomorrow

The 3-way battle of the mon/tues drama will begin tomorrow with the premiere of MBC’s “When It’s At Night”. “When It’s At Night” will take over the slot from TV ratings champion “Yi San” which has shown its final episode this week. The new drama which stars Lee Dong Gun and Kim Sun Ah promises to bring joy and laughter to the audience with its comedic plot and strong performance.

The prelude to this “war” has already begun on Tuesday with KBS’s “Strongest Chil-Woo” and SBS’s “Gourmet” airing their first 2 episodes on the same day. The preliminary result goes with “Gourmet” winning “Strongest Chil-Woo” by a few percentage points. “Gourmet” achieves 13.2% and 16.5% while “Strongest Chil-Woo” got 11.5% and 9.1% for its debut.

Lead Actors

Kim Rae Won vs Lee Dong Gun vs Eric Mun. Both Kim Rae Won and Lee Dong Gun may have more experience as they debut earlier than Eric Mun and also acted in more dramas. However, Eric is not any less popular than the other two with him being the lead rapper of the popular group Shinhwa. All three of them have their own style and charm but they also share some common traits. Big eyes and a charming smile.

Lead Actresses

Nam Sang Mi vs Goo Hye Sun vs Kim Sun Ah. Kim Sun Ah will be the more popular out of the three as she became extremely popular in Asia with her last drama “My Lovely Samsoon”. Many viewers are actually waiting for her return to the drama scene. However, Nam Sang Mi and Goo Hye Sun also established their own fan base with their excellent performance these recent years. There is one word to describe all three of them, cute!

Story/Plot

Culinary display vs Korean Zorro vs Spy comedy. I do not know exactly which plot will appeal more to the Korean public. What I know is in recent years, historical dramas have an advantage compared to modern dramas. Hence, for the only historical drama in the list “Strongest Chil-Woo”, one may think it will have the advantage in gaining the viewership but its ratings this week proves that this is not the case. “Gourmet” can be seen as modern “Dae Jang Geum” while “When It’s At Night” is pretty “Sam Soon” style.

Personal Ranking

1. When It’s At Night
2. Gourmet
3. Strongest Chil-Woo.

So all readers, which one is your favourite?
